Immune Therapy

This centres around the use of medications known to improve cell mediated immunity. The main group of these medications are the proteoglycans preparations (medicinal mushrooms), and there is a good deal of research evidence to show that these preparations specifically stimulate cell mediated immunity. In some cases, we refer our patients to clinics abroad, in order to obtain a dendritic cell therapy vaccine. We are unable to obtain these vaccines in this country, and therefore referring abroad is one way whereby patients can have access to this approach. In this situation we do not prescribe them or administer them. These vaccines are self-administered in any event.

Intravenous Vitamin C may be administered at very high doses, at which level it has a pro-oxidant as opposed to an anti-oxidant effect. This is a three week programme which is run at our Winchester clinic only. This is a safe way of killing tumour cells and doesn't carry the side effects of chemotherapy. High dose intravenous Vitamin C has published evidence to show that cancer cells can be killed using this approach, but there are currently very few studies in specific cancers to indicate success rates in specific tumours.  Research using this approach into specific cancers is currently being carried out at various centres worldwide.

We also administer Vitamin C Therapy using various oral supplements, particularly Alpha Lipoic Acid and Quercetin which raise the serum levels of vitamin C reached by the vitamin C infusion programme.
