This group is for those looking to develop their mindfulness skills in order to better cope with the challenges of living! Mindfulness simply means paying attention, on purpose in a particular way in the present moment without judgment. If we are able to do this we can attend to what is present more skillfully and wisely instead of falling into old patterns of reacting.
Mindfulness has been shown to an effective tool to help people cope better with stress, recurrent depression, anxiety and chronic pain. It is not a cure – it does not stop painful feelings - but provides an effective way of being with these aspects of our lives.
In the group we will learn the skill of mindfulness by practicing mindfulness. It is a practical group that focuses on the development of the skill. We will be practicing the body scan, mindful movement and mindfulness of the breath along with reflection and discussion. A commitment to attend all the sessions is important as is the willingness to practice in-between the group sessions. Homework is a core element of the program.
If you are interested in joining the group please contact Clare Robinson at The Dove Clinic:
